Procedures » Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

As a result of changes over time, accompanied with changes after breastfeeding and weight-loss, the breasts begin to sag or droop. This gives them a more flattened, elongated shape. Essentially, there is not enough breast tissue to fill up the skin; or conversely, too much skin for the breast tissue.

In order to regain that perky appearance of a youthful breast, a breast lift (mastopexy) may be desired.

This entails making incisions around the areola to lift it back up on the chest wall. Depending on the severity of the drooping breast, more incisions may be necessary down to and on the chest wall.

As a general rule, this will bring the breasts up to a more favorable position on the chest, but may make the breast appear smaller in size. Dr. Gordley may choose to rearrange some of your own tissue to auto-augment your breast, or may suggest placing an implant at the same time to maximize the appearance.

This woman desired a breast lift after losing more than 100 lbs.   A standard anchor shaped incision allows for the creation of a nice breast shape and repositioning of the nipple higher on the breast.

Below demonstrates a breast lift combined with a 275 cc silicone implant in a patient who desired a fuller, yet natural appearing breast. Although her lift was performed through incisions only around the areola, some women may require additional incisions down to the chest wall.

This patient desired a much fuller breast after losing 100 lbs through gastric bypass, and 350 cc saline implants were used on top of the muscle, combined with a periareolar breast lift (with a vertical incision down to the chest wall). This is just 4 weeks after surgery, and the scars should improve with time.
