Reshaping Your Confidence

Overly large breasts are a significant problem for many women. Not only do they detract from the quality of life by causing back/neck pain, shoulder strap grooving, and constant skin irritation, but they also negatively impact a woman’s self-image. Exercising is difficult. Buying a proper-fitting bra is burdensome, and many women simply don’t like the appearance of their clothes.

Breast reduction is an option for healthy women who don’t smoke, and who are willing to have some scarring on their breasts as a tradeoff for better size and shape. In addition, they must have a recent normal mammogram.

Is breast reduction right for you?

Many women want to know about potential changes in nipple sensation and breastfeeding. Although nipple sensation is likely to decrease to some degree, many women do not notice because the large breast size caused their nipples to be numb preoperatively compared to the normal population. Although breastfeeding is possible after breast reduction, it will likely be decreased such that the newborn child will need formula supplementation.

About breast reduction surgery

Traditional breast reductions require incisions to be placed around the nipple, vertically down to the chest wall, and along the chest wall under the breast. Through these incisions, the excess breast tissue and fat are removed, and the nipple and colored skin around it (areola), are raised back to the proper level. The vast majority of women develop very acceptable scars over time.

Anesthesia – This is typically done under general anesthesia. Although it can be done in a day surgery situation, typically patients stay overnight and leave the next morning.
